First Term Reflections

It’s so strange to think I launched RMB Dance in January and have completed a full term of classes, yet haven’t actually seen any of our dancers face to face yet! Three months in, I'm patiently waiting for the day I get to meet our dancers in person.

Looking back at the past blog posts prompts some interesting reflections on the past few months. In my first post, at the end of December, I expressed hope that we'd only have to have classes online for the first two weeks of January. If nothing else I suppose that shows I’m an optimistic person! My February post, in honour of Children’s Mental Health Week, discussed how dance can be used as a form of expression and consequently develop self confidence and resilience.

Following the lockdown announcement which pushed us into online classes, my main aim was to keep children dancing and active during our foreseeable future at home. Many of the big plans I had for RMB Dance were temporarily put on hold, with the priority being for classes to bring a little bit of joy to our dancers.

To say our dancers have inspired me with perseverance and dedication throughout their classes at home is an understatement. It's easy to focus on everything we've missed out on, but it’s important to recognise the achievements. Through their motivation and enthusiasm, our dancers have learned new moves, stretched, done home-made circuits and obstacle courses, learned routines, played games and even performed to family members at home - it’s safe to say it’s been a term I’ll never forget!

That being said, I’m delighted to announce that we'll be starting our in-person classes on 30th April and I couldn’t be more excited! Classes are open for booking on our website, and I just can’t wait to meet our dancers face to face. Hope to see you soon!
